Centre for Research in Biomolecular Interactions presents Prof. Ebrahim Ghafar-Zadeh, Assistant Professor in the CSE departement at York University
Talk Title:Integrated Bio-sensors for Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Quantitative Biology
Abstract:
Recent advances in micro- nanotechnologies have enabled the design and implementation of highly integrated, high throughput bio-sensors for point-of-care diagnostics (as a clinical application) and Quantitative Biology ( as an automated- biological-laboratory application for fundamental biological study). Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor offers several advantages over other competing technologies for a verity of applications including single molecule detection, implanted bio-sensors and etc. This talk takes a close look at CMOS Bio-sensors design as a multidisciplinary approach encompassing: microelectronic circuit and systems, biochemical interfaces and micro-fluidic structures.
About the Speaker:
Ebrahim Ghafar-Zadeh received his BSc MSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from KNT (1994, Tehran, Iran), Tehran University(1997, Tehran, Iran) and Polytechnique Montreal(2008, Montreal Canada). In 2009-2010 he received several postdoctoral fellowship ( PDF) from NSERC ( Canada), and FQRNT ( QC, Canada) when he was working as Postdoctoral Fellow in the Departement of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McGill University ( 2008-2009) and in the department of Bioengineering (2010-2012) at University of California, Berkeley (UCB). In 2012, Dr. Ghafar-Zadeh continued his research in Polytechnique de Montreal ( in a collaboration with UCB) as an independent senior researcher and in 2013 he joint the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at York University as an Assistant Professor. The main research interests of Dr. Ghafar-Zadeh include circuits, systems and sensors design for point-of-care diagnostics and he has published a book and more then 40 papers in various journals and conferences in this topic.
