Centre for Research on Biomolecular Interactions presents Assist. Prof. Andrei Drabovich, Department of Lab Medicine & Pathobiology, University of Toronto
Talk Title: "Quantitative proteomics and its applications in cancer biology and biomarker discovery"
Abstract:
Proteins are the mediators of all biological processes, and studying the human proteome may facilitate elucidation of disease pathogenesis, discovery of therapeutic targets and identification of diagnostic markers. Mass spectrometry has emerged as the powerful workhorse to decipher and quantify the human proteome. This talk will present the latest advances in quantitative mass spectrometry, review proteomic analysis of human tissues, cells and proximal fluids and introduce our biomarker discovery platform. Methods of shotgun mass spectrometry, SILAC, selected reaction monitoring and immuno-mass spectrometry will be discussed. Dynamics of expression of estrogen-regulated proteins in breast cancer cells and discovery of male infertility biomarkers will be presented in detail.
